Prana Alchemy @ Bandar Sunway

Bringing a breath of fresh intrigue to Malaysia's caffeine bar experience, Prana Alchemy fuses the five-century-old art of Turkish coffee with this new millennium's science of third-wave brewing. It's an engaging initiative on a serene street in a Bandar Sunway residential enclave, masterminded by the founders of Klang's Seraph Awaken cafe.

There are two main styles of preparing Prana Alchemy's take on Turkish coffee. The first hews closer to the classic method, with finely ground beans heated in a cezve copper pot for about two minutes. However, it's served immediately before it boils over (instead of being returned to the fire a second time, as is traditionally done). The result is robust, promising full-bodied pleasure, carefully overseen by Prana's baristas Vishnu and Andy, who'll be happy to chat with customers about the coffee. RM12 for a 30-ml serving.

The second method involves an additional step that follows the Turkish-fashioned brewing, relying on the now-familiar modern ritual of pour-over coffee to create a contrastingly lighter, elegantly smoother beverage compared to the first, with a taste and texture that's like a cross between an espresso and filter coffee. RM18 for a 180-ml portion; customers currently have a choice of Kenyan or Ethiopian beans, roasted by Seraph Awaken, for these Turkish coffee preparations.

If you prefer typical espressos (RM9) and flat whites (RM12), those are also available, made with a Brazilian-Ethiopian house blend. Klang-baked cakes, in flavours like Earl Grey and Oreo mille-crepe, are offered too (RM13 per slice).
